Il Matrimonio di Immacolata is an opera buffa adopting the form of a traditional wedding, but with matrimonial and operatic tropes flipped upside down and reconsidered. The wedding ceremony guides the audience through the complexities and conflict we experience in our yearning for closeness and self-actualization, devotion and independence. We witness a cynical exploration of the ambivalence found in love and the hypocrisy imposed by the social and moral contract of marriage. In slapstick dialogue with the liturgical, social and institutional realities surrounding the act of marriage, the performers find themselves in an unforeseeably fragile construct in their search for romantic and personal fulfilment. The ceremony — celebrating the irreverent, orgiastic union of hippie gothic bunny rabbits — is accompanied by original music combining arrangements of classics by Mozart with nursery rhymes rewritten as whimsical, absurd and perverse arias.
Accompanied by live pipe organ and piano. Original music by Roman Ole, Roman Lemberg as well as adapted music from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and the musical HAIR. Starring Marta Antinucci, Elena Francalanci, Shade Theret, Cassie Augusta Jorgenson, Estefania Alvarez Ramirez, Luisa Alfonso, Angela Braun, Marie Requa Gailey, Magpie, Noah Lichtblau, Ben Cruchley, Roman Lemberg and Roman Ole
Libretto, direction and costumes by Leila Hekmat.
